I’m ecstatic that Matel included a bit in their Moschino Barbie ad. It’s a major step forward in dismantling gender stereotypes… So am I the only one bothered by the boy’s line being “Moschino Barbie is so fierce!” – while “fierce” is used by many, the line is also a gay stereotype. Thus, once again reestablishing gender roles (as gay men are stereotypically viewed as not masculine).
Hmm, troubled – but not willing to post this on FB. Thoughts?

I thought the same thing when I saw that ad. I saw a post about Mattel including boys in their new barbie doll ad campaign and was hopeful. Then I watched the ad and wondered, why is everyone clamoring over the “progessiveness” of this? Yet another company maintaining gendered stereotypes and now including some negative ones about the LGBTQI+ community (ie, gay men are effeminate). Their approach was lacking in anything I would classify as progressive.

The ad received so much positive attention, but was just so poorly done. I guess it’s like “Mad Max:Fury Road” and the hype is tricking people into ignoring the obvious problems
